Buenavista, Bohol – In a united effort to strengthen environmental protection and support climate action, Artemis Marine & Industrial Construction, Inc. (AMICI) and Concrete Solutions, Inc. (CSI) led a large-scale mangrove tree planting activity at Cabul-an Island, located in Barangay Eastern Cabul-an, Buenavista, Bohol, on August 27–30, 2020.
This initiative was conducted in partnership with the Municipality of Buenavista, Province of Bohol, DENR PENRO-Bohol, and DENR CENRO-Talibon as part of the National Greening Program and Clean Air Program—a national campaign to combat climate change and restore degraded coastal ecosystems.

The ceremonial launch on August 27, 2020, was attended by representatives from AMICI and CSI, Mayor Dave Duallo, DENR CENRO-Talibon Chief Elpedio Palaca, DENR PENRO-Bohol, provincial leaders, and community residents. The event marked the beginning of a collaborative effort to restore the island’s coastal biodiversity.

A total of 90,000 mangrove propagules (locally known as tongki) were planted across five (5) hectares of the coastal zone. The activity supplements the municipality’s existing plantation, which already covers 10 hectares with 185,000 propagules. The project aims to reforest a total of 55 hectares.
Residents, who rely on the mangroves for sustainable fishing, shellfish gathering, and coastal protection, participated in the planting on August 29–30, 2020, under the supervision of LGU Buenavista and DENR CENRO-Talibon.
The mangrove forests act as natural filters and barriers against storm surges, while providing shelter to various marine species—like crabs, blue crabs, shrimps, and other mollusks. These natural resources are essential to the islanders’ food security and livelihood.
AMICI and CSI also pledged continued support through education campaigns and sustainable management programs, ensuring the success and long-term maintenance of the mangrove plantation as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
